Rita Reis holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Social Anthropology from the ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon. Currently, she is a PhD candidate in Social Anthropology at the Institute of Social Sciences (University of Lisbon). Her research focuses on protracted refugee situations and, through the case of exiled Sahrawis, examines youth transnational mobilities, particularly educational trajectories from the refugee camps (near Tindouf) to Algiers, Algeria, and Badajoz, Spain. Through transnational youth mobilities, she explores the intersection between structural conditions of exile and individual life strategies and desires. Her ethnography focuses on how young Sahrawis abroad negotiate between collective political commitment and personal aspirations while constructing future perspectives within a prolonged displacement context. Reis’ PhD research is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (SFRH/BD/128517/2017).
