The United Nations Mission for Western Sahara (MINURSO) was the most ambitious peacekeeping operation at the time of its creation in 1990. This article examines the sources of inspiration for this mission, and then goes on to examine its rules, missions and structure. It then analyses the Mission from the perspectives of language, nationality and gender. Finally, its results are judged and advisable changes in its mandate are suggested.
