“According to Advocate General Wathelet, the fish trade agreement between the EU and Morocco is invalid because it applies to Western Sahara and adjacent waters.

By concluding this agreement, the Union has violated its obligation to respect the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination and not to recognize an illegal situation arising from its violation, and has failed to put in place the necessary guarantees to ensure that the exploitation of the natural resources of Western Sahara is for the benefit of the people of that territory.”
