On 23rd and 24th of October, the appeal hearing was held against the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, which in September 2021 had annulled the fishing agreement between Rabat and Brussels. The court had ruled that it had been concluded ‘without the consent of the people of Western Sahara’. However, Rabat refuses to sign a text excluding the waters of Western Sahara, even though the loss of revenue in the event of non-renewal amounts to around $100 million. The ruling is not expected before June 2024. Here is what Orient XXI wrote the day after the September 2021 decision.
