• SYNOPSIS : An initiation and poetic trip at the heart of Sahrawi culture
Limam Boisha, Sahrawi poet living in Madrid, admits that he “went dry on Sahara” and travels to Western Sahara, to get his inspiration back for his poetry. There, Hamida Abdullah tells him about the path he took to Leyuad with the philosopher Belga Mohamed Salem and the poet and scholar Bonanna Busseid, at the heart of Tiris, ancestral land of the Sahrawi people – path that the eledest of living Sahrawi poets Badi Mohamed Salem has shown them. A long and difficult trip, searching for inspiration, at the source of poetry, a poetic and emotional trip. In Leyudad, poet Sidi Brahim awaits for them under a tent – which will lead them to discover the wonders of a unique place – and will make them dive into the myths and secrets of the desert genies, “those who can’t be named”.
• ABOUT LIMAM BOICHA
Born in Western Sahara, the poet spent most of his childhood in the desert before he – him and his family – went into exile in the Tinduf refugee camps in the beginning of the war. After spending years in Algeria, he decided to leave for Cuba from where he would return with a degree in journalism. When he eventually came back, as a young adult, to his adoptive home in Tinduf, he then started to work on the Sahrawi national radio. As a final trip, he left the Algerian South-West for the Canary Islands (Spain). There, he became a cultural activist and hosted several conferences, readings… Passionate about poerty, he wrote his own collected poems Los versos de la madera and lended his pen to Sahrawi poets, whose art he translated from hassanya to spanish, collaborating with multiple anthropologists from the Madrid Autonomous University. In 2005, he founded the “Generación de la Amistad” group with 8 other Sahrawi poets who left the Tinduf camps for Spain as well. Last publication by Limam Boicha, Les rites de la tente : poésie sahraouie contemporaine (ed. Atelier du Tilde, March 2018) is a collection of poems between hassanya and spanish, at the junction between anthropology and poetry. The author now resides in Barcelona.
